Principal's Message

Chris Perez, PrincipalDear Community Members,

Remarkable Raymond Avenue Elementary School, a one-of-a-kind school located in the heart of Vermont Knolls first opened its doors to the community in 1921. Although the school has existed for nearly 100 years, it continues to be a well-oiled machine educating the finest scholars. Currently, the school educates about 473 scholars consisting of 74% Latino, 21% African American, 1% Asian/Pacific Islander, and 1% White. The 93 teachers and staff members that make up the Remarkable Raymond Avenue Family ensures equity, access, and inclusion for all students preparing them to meet the demands of the 21st Century.

Our school motto, “Students are College Bound and Career Ready”, is the essential factor that guides our instructional focus every day. Our learning community provides a rigorous standard-based curriculum which includes enrichment of language development.

I’m proud to say that our school is recognized as an Academic English Mastery Program (AEMP) Model School. As an AEMP Model School, we are a model of excellence in culturally and linguistically responsive teaching. We are proud to serve as a demonstration site for the District and continue to invite teachers, staff, and parents to observe our Mainstream English Language Development (MELD) instruction.

We are embarking upon becoming a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) School. We are moving toward a school-wide vision of enhancing the hidden skills and abilities of our scholars by immersing the arts into their lives. As part of our Arts Program, we offer: ukulele, guitar, violin, chorus, theater, and dance.

I welcome you to stop by the school for a tour of the campus or for further information about the wonderful and exciting things our students are engaged in at Remarkable Raymond Avenue Elementary School.

Sincerely,
Chris Perez, Principal
